End of Summer 2021
/Tim and I were pretty busy our last month in Pittsburgh as summer ended and fall began. We continued to spend as much time as we could with family and friends. It was so wonderful to have that time together. We really enjoyed every visit and family gathering. I do feel bad that we didn’t get to see everyone so if we missed you this year, we will catch you the next time.
Of course, big family events took priority. At the end of September, we celebrated with Whitney and Ian at their engagement party. It was held at North Park Lodge and luckily the weather cooperated with a beautiful evening for the party. They wanted to have the meal outside on the patio and the afternoon rain delayed the setup. Luckily it cleared by 4:30 and we scrambled to dry the tables and chairs, cover them with tablecloths and set out the candles. We were just finishing as the guests started to arrive so all worked out well and the patio was the perfect place to enjoy the view of the woods and the sunset. A beautiful celebration for a beautiful couple.
I headed up to Sigel, PA the next weekend for my niece’s wedding. I highly enjoyed the drive north through the rolling hills and woodlands of Western PA. Sarah and Mike also chose an outdoor venue and lucked out with a warm day and a cool crisp evening. The barn venue under the trees was a perfect spot for a wedding. The wedding gave me the opportunity to get together with my brothers and sister all at one time. I think it was the first time we were all together since the gathering we had right before Tim and I left to start our full time journey In October 2019. We definitely need to get together more often.
Last year, Katie and I had a fun tourist day in the city so I wanted to repeat that and visit some different spots. We finally made time to fit that in. We had lunch at one of my favorite places, Redfin Blues, which sits on the Allegheny River near Washington’s Landing. Then we visited the Strip District and a new development on the South side. it was good to play tourist for a day.
After a couple of busy weekends, we spent our last week in the “Burgh” saying goodbye to everyone. We were out almost every day so packing up the trailer to travel again was last minute and a bit rushed. We got it done, but left too much to do for the last morning. I had hoped to leave around 10 AM; Tim was aiming for 11 AM; and we didn’t actually leave until at least 12:30. I think it was almost 1😉. It made for a long travel day and we were exhausted when we stopped in Sutton, West Virginia. At least we got there by dinner time and before dark. Although we miss seeing family and friends, we are excited to be traveling again. I am looking forward to sharing our fall adventures with all of you.
