Behind the Wheel
/Well, we just finished the ninth move of our trailer. Finally made it to Florida! Hard to believe, this afternoon we were outside playing cards with weather in the 70’s and sunny.
Big news! Deb drove the truck, towing our 5th wheel trailer…and I have to say “She did a fine job”. I was surprised when she asked me if she could get some driving time in before we arrived for our three month stay in Zephyrhills. We were already in route to Tallahassee, but her willingness to try, I liked. I wanted her first experience to be positive and keep her challenges minimized.
After some discussion, she took over the driving duties after filling up with diesel. The gas station was not very congested and just a few hundred yards off the exit. She took the wheel and drove about an hour or so with confidence. She had no problems making her way down the highway, passing slower moving vehicles on occasion.
We are in Homasassa now, and unfortunately, I drove the whole way on this travel day. It started off windy so I started the drive on I10. Then I drove south on State Route 19, and found no place to pull over to switch without difficulty…not like the large interstate highways where you have rest areas and highway exits where we could switch driving duties.
After only test driving our Motorhome, then never driving it again, I am glad Deb is interested in learning how to pull this one. Hopefully she will be able to get behind the wheel again soon. Looking forward to it.
